Ancient Celtic ring, from an old collection of Celtiberian items, approx. size 7

$99.99

An ancient Celtic (see below regarding provenance) attractive and humble band ring, with four sets of three horizontal lines as decoration. This ring slides up my ring sizer to the size 7 line, and I measure approximately 18 mm across the inside.

We bought a collection of ancient artifacts at auction in Switzerland (La Galerie Numismatique, September 28th, 2024); we are researching each object and offering them for sale individually. You can see the collection in the pictures we posted. This ring is probably an ancient Celtic or Roman ring, from the Iberian Peninsula, and likely bronze (as the other artifacts in the collection are).

Measurement -
The ring measures approx. 18mm across the inside.
The ring measures approx. 20.3mm across the outside.
The ring measures approx. 1.25mm tall.

Provenance -
In the course of our investigation, we found that the artifacts had several names of places in the Celtiberian region written on them, for example "Salienca" is written on the base of one of the rings. Also, the brooch design was unique to the Celtiberians (Google search Celtiberian Brooch to see similar examples). We've come to the conclusion that the collection is specific to the Celtiberian era/region although some noticeably Roman brooches are included within the collection, so it spans many centuries.

Wikipedia states the Celtiberians "were a group of Celts and Celticized peoples inhabiting an area in the central-northeastern Iberian Peninsula during the final centuries of the BC. They were explicitly mentioned as being Celts by several classic authors (e.g. Strabo)."

Condition -
See pictures. The ring has some tarnish but a little shine. This one may have been cleaned at some point; of all the rings in the collection, this one was the cleanest. There may be the slightest amount of glue from where it was glued into the collection but it looks like it all came off with a hair dryer.
